I am not the biggest fan of using harsh chemicals — if I don’t have to. Years and years ago, I worked at a golf course and a co-worker shared this recipe with me as a more natural alternative to chemical weed killers that we used around the club house when the greens crew was too busy tending to the actual course.
I still use it to this day, and it works amazingly!
Try to of course use it when you have at least a good 24 hours of no rain in the forecast…
Ingredients
- table salt
- dish soap
- white vinegar
- warm water
*I do not have exact measurements, I just eyeball it all… You can see my approximate vision in the graphic I made for you.
I bought a pressure sprayer that I found at a Dollar Store — which has lasted a large number of years, shockingly! You can also use a regular sprayer, but your hand will get tired and sore.
Directions
- I like to give the bottom of the sprayer a good coat of table salt — this I believe is the key ingredient. It causes a drought-like condition for weeds because water gets pulled from the plant.
- A small splash of dish soap helps to keep the concoction stuck on the plant.
- I fill my sprayer about a 1/3 of the way with vinegar. Vinegar is another key ingredient because it dissolves the cell membranes on the leaves which desiccates the plant.
- The rest is topped up with warm water from the tap. I use warm water to help dissolve the salt a bit.
- Give it a good shake, and you are ready to get to work!

Take care,
